89' Corolla won't start, it started for a second, but died. Now it just cranks, and when it does, it sounds like air is leaking (like from a safety relief valve) somewhere behind the air filter (not necessarily from the air filter, just in that vicinity).
You can trying removing the air filter, and pump the gas to check if gas is getting in (by smelling). If you can smell gas, it is not the fuel pump. It can possibly be a plugged tailpipe, snow or ice, the air leak may actually be a safety relieve valve
